Before going into the theory and practice of the Building Components and Methods, there is need to understand some simple definitions of the subject matter. Building is said to be any structure that is used for human habitation in order to perform activities. These activities include, working, sleeping, learning, production processes, procreation, eating e t c. Buildings are broadly classified as Residential, Industrial, Commercial, Recreational, Civic, Storage, Medical, Educational, Transportation and Religious. Building structure consist of two major parts as substructure and the super structure. These are divided into three parts as Columns, Beams and Slabs. Building component is a subsystem of closed construction designed for use as part of a building structure, which may include structural, electrical, mechanical and fire protection and other systems affecting health and safety of building occupants. There are many building structure components as; Foundation, DPC/DPM, Plint beam/ground beam, Floor, Slab, Wall, Shear wall, Columns, Roof, Stair case, Tie beam, Lintel, Window sill e t c. Building methods are the processes used when creating these buildings.
