This course explores issues and concepts relating to contemporary developments in materials, construction and building engineering technology. It introduces students to techniques appropriate for the production of medium to large scale buildings. Students will engage with new theories and technologies in an exploratory environment to develop an understanding of various structural systems and elements, building fabric, materiality, detailing, and the relationship between design, construction and structures. Construction knowledge is important to every Architect to ensure they can guide through the actualization of their concepts. No Architectural design is complete without detailed guidelines on how to construct it. Even though Engineers usually come up with those details, the Architect need to guide them to ensure its seamless integration with his design. Limited construction knowledge implies limited design solution for Architects. This means a good Architect should be conversant with various construction techniques both the normal and advanced techniques. This course aims to widen the creativity scope of students by Introducing them to the latest and most advanced solutions to some of the most challenging construction projects.
