This course introduces students to the principles, methods, and legal framework of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), with particular emphasis on arbitration and conciliation in Nigeria. It examines the various ADR mechanisms, including negotiation, mediation, conciliation, good offices, and inquiry, highlighting their nature, procedures, advantages, and limitations in resolving disputes outside conventional litigation. The course further explores the sources and development of arbitration law in Nigeria, the nature and legal principles of arbitration, the law applicable to arbitration proceedings, and the legal requirements, formation, validity, and effect of arbitration agreements.
