Measurement of advanced foundation types, including those on sloping sites, simple stepped foundations, driven and bored pile foundations, deep raft foundations, and underpinning for defective foundations. Measurement of in-situ reinforced concrete framed structures, covering column bases, columns, beams, suspended slabs, staircases (including balustrades and handrails), concrete flat roofs, and felting. Preparation of reinforcement schedules using MS Excel, along with the measurement of reinforcement and formwork. Production of bills of quantities for the measured works using manual methods, MS Excel, and specialized software. Site visits, construction images, and video diaries will help students understand the sequence of measured construction works. Group assignments will involve the preparation of a bill of quantities for a reinforced in-situ concrete framed structure. Introduction to the use of preliminary and preamble clauses, as well as the relationship between specifications, drawings, and the bill of quantities. Form, order, and procedures in writing specifications will also be covered.
